What is Specops Command? That is probably the biggest problem for those taking a quick glance at this product: just what it is cannot be easily understood by many without taking more than a quick glance. Essentially, Specops Command is a deployment system for PowerShell (and VBS) scripts. It lets you specify who should run a script and when. If needed, it will install any cmdlets required by your script and it also provides a nice reporting feature so you can see how things went. Finally, it does all of this using Group Policy as its deployment mechanism.

But wait a minute, Group Policy does not allow for scheduling, reporting or deployment of anything but an MSI setup! If you've seen Specops Deploy (or read my review of it) you know that it can with the help of a client side extension (CSE) Specops uses to enhance the out-of-the-box capabilities of Group Policy. Specops Command is really a nice way of leveraging the technology behind Specops Deploy with a focus on the managed execution of PowerShell scripts.

In this short review, I'll cover the installation, capabilities and use of Specops Command.
