Editor
InstallShield Editor 11 (AdminStudio Edition) is provided for the editing, or
authoring, of Windows Installer files. With its own Project Assistant, you will
find the editor very easy to work with- while still providing you the full
granular editing capabilities you may need to customize more advanced packages.

In the screen shot above, you can see the Installation Designer view (as opposed to
the Project Assistant view) where I have am viewing the properties of a file in
the package, and have clicked on the “permissions” button to show its
ability to modify permissions to files within your package. In many corporate
environments, it is very common to find users locked away from performing
operations that may be required by an application to operate properly. If you
identify this to be the case, you may use this option to open security to
necessary files right with your MSI setup. This is a native MSI capability, but
it is seldom so well implemented. You may also note
that key files (those that trigger self-healing operations if they are missing
from an installed client) are clearly marked with a key icon. To set a file as a
key file, you need only right click on the file and choose “set as key file”.
If you are evaluating an MSI editor, I highly recommend getting the trial and
spending some time browsing the many options available in InstallShield 11
Professional- AdminStudio Edition. This is just another of several features
offered by FLEXnet AdminStudio 7 that provide so many options, we just cannot do
them justice here.
