IEAK 8 is the standard tool provide by the Microsoft for the customization of IE 8. This tool will generate the IE8-Setup-Full.exe and also IE8-Setup-Full.msi.

IE8-Setup-Full.msi. does not contain any feature, component, files or registries.
It is only installing the application by calling IE8-Setup-Full.exe through custom action. IE8-Setup-Full.msi is only serving as a wrapper to IE8-Setup-Full.exe and doesn’t seem to be fully utilizing advantages of MSI such as repair/self-repair or full uninstall of the application.

Also IE8-Setup-Full.msi created by the tool does not contain any supporting action to uninstall the application. Ultimately if we use IE8-Setup-Full.msi to install the application then we have to use silent uninstall command line to uninstall the application via the EXE.

Upgrading from IE7 to IE8 - if you have google as your default search provider and using IEAK, you need to delete the (HKLM)Searchscopes for IE

With a standard IE install, two live search providers and google are installed, with live search being the default provider. This can be manually changed by the user, by deleting on live search provider and making google the default search provider.

But of course this is user profile based and will be required to be done for every profile on every PC.

To solve this issue the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes must be deleted , prior to the IE8 install on the Target PC.

Maybe consider turning off RSS feeds, have since discovered a lovely little feature that prompts a user to synch MS at Home & MS at work feeds (which of course they go yes to), which start filling up Outlook inboxes (we are trying to reign in the size of).
