I want to go on an Advanced Sequencing in App-V course of some kind but all i can find are the bog standard Introduction to Softgrid or MDOP courses which skirt around the sequencing aspect in 2 of 20 of the course modules.  I have been through all of the educational literature for the Softgrid course and it's very basic.

Is anyone aware of a course which offers this?  The only one i can find is based in Canada (BigHat) and as im in the UK, it's not really cost effective for me.  I have sent them an email re distance learning or literature a while ago but had no reply.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay getting back to you but we are in the process of creating an offline course but the timeline for completion on that is still being worked out. Login consultants has a four day course in Europe but it is very unlikely that Tim or myself will be doing a public course in Europe due to lack of demand. It's much easier for us to do a local course and have our students fly in because it keeps the overhead low so the likelyhood of running a course is high and more than 50% of our students aren't local to begin with. Anyway here is the link to the Login Consultants course.

I'm in the same boat .

The course on offer from the Big Hat guys is exactly what I need...But in the UK. I've already spoken to a  Microsoft contact and it doesn't seem anything is in the pipeline in the short term.

Anyone else know of a similar course based in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply kkaminsk,

I've had a look on the site you specified and the course focuses on the App-V infrastructure and teaches the fundamentals of sequencing (According to the website literature).  I am looking for a course that focuses on sequencing rather than the solution infrastructure.

Do you know if Microsoft are developing a sequencing focused certification?  I've seen references to MDOP certification but have found nothing that is available as yet.

Im glad to hear you are deveolping an offline course.  Do you have a rough estimate for completion of this?

For an offline course I would say it's too early to tell but probably wouldn't happen till Q2 at the earliest using my best guess. Maybe if we cut it down to just sequencing we could get something out the door earlier. I think the way Microsoft is marketing things you won't see an App-V specific certification and it will be lumped in with MDOP.

We have an online course which we have done for the US and EU countries, running it for Australia is the same deal.

If you happen to know of a group of people wanting App-V training could put together a live five day training session.

Thanks Kevin. Unfortunately I'm all alone.

Looking for something like a deep dive - how to do complex customizations - Been packaging for 5 years so I'm more advanced than a someone who's fresh to packaging apps.

I've been on an MDOP course - fine for an overview, but little other than a snapshotting session. :(

I did do a course for a group of local packagers that had been using App-V for about 1-4 years (depending on the person) and they found value because we did touch on topics they didn't know. I guess we need to do a better job of talking about what our sequencing content contains. I do invite students to bring their problem applications to class so we can go over troubleshooting and hopefully fix some problems at the same time.

Also I have a shameless plug to add. I'm a little short to put on a class in Calgary in the next couple months but I do have interest. Anyone interested please feel free to drop me a line. kevin.kaminski@bighatgroup.com

There is a company in Holland I know, they give courses in App-V training or they organise them on request.
If you want to know send me a PM or email.

The appv courses on a decent level are rare.

This is not in the UK either, but closer than Canada:

http://www.loginconsultants.com (maybe the one Mike Bijl was talking about)

They offer an App-V course that covers all the basics, but the trainers are really experienced. I have attended a training myself. Instead of doing the basics again my class decided to skip them and rather discuss some more interesting parts of App-V or situations that we were unfamiliar or inexperienced with. Two of the trainers are MVP's as well ;)

You might try and contact them to see what possibilities they offer.

That's funny you mention the company I tried to refer to.
That's the one but I didn't want to advertise (due to the EULA) but now you mention Login Consultants eventhough you're an employee of another company.

Thanks that makes it more clear.
