Are you able to install the application using the vendor MSI directly? If not, first you'll need to find out what changes need to be done to the MSI (such as changing the ISSETUPDRIVEN property), then create an MST using the generic template, then apply the changes you identified, apply the property changes that the dialogs set, and that's it...

Basically, you're bypassing InstallTailor for this piece. I don't recall if you're able to pass parameters to the MSI you're trying to transform with InstallTailor though...I could be wrong.

Good luck

yes if i just double click the MSI, the program will ask me questions and for the serial number and install. I need to create a MST that will answrer these questions and install the app through GPO

Which particular "dumb as$ error" does Wise throw? I've done DNS with an MST through InstallTailor without issue. Was it "This application must be installed using Setup.EXE" or something similar?

InstEdit complicated?!? It's what I call Orca Plus, i.e. Orca with logical extensions and enhancements. Orca is part of the Windows Installer SDK, a "must have" for any packager.

Anyway, if you want to go the direct edit route, you need to find the properties "behind" the controls and set them in your MST.

Im guessing it would be the dumb error in the picture.

As for Orca its in the platform SDK. Download that and you will find Orca.

you may be able to find a Windows Installer SDK as well which is a slightly more cut down version thats harder to find.

Man you know I would love to do that but I can't seem to find orca anywhere. I have downloaded a windows ask but I don't see any Ora.exe anywhere.

Ideas? Link?

Download from the above link, and install. After installation, just right click on your msi, youwill get an option, edit with orca.

You could also try InstEdit (InstEd) - an orca-like tool I believe was developed by or for use at Camwood in London

I can't seem to find orca anywhere. When you have installed the WI SDK, in the 'Tools' folder you'll find ORCA.MSI. Quite why MS doesn't install it as part of the SDK defies all logic. However, InstEdit http://www.instedit.com is probably a better tool.

Hi all,
I would like to know to find out the number of MSTs to be created for the given MSI.

There is no set number. Nine times out of ten, you can use one, what's generally called a response transform. A response transform provides responses to the dialogs used in an installation. There are other uses. For example, you might have one MST to supply the name of a server used for a UAT version of an app and another for the Production version.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
