SOS help required. AutoManager Meridian

Hi Guys,

I am working on a package called AutoManager Meridian which has server connectivity to it. The package was developed but there is a problem which persists. When any of the six shortcuts are launched the server connection is established. But if any other exe is launched via a shortcut it looks to connect to the sever, though there is a connection which is already established. This unlike the exe behaviour.

If any one of you have faced any such problems regarding server connectivity please provide me with a solution. Also the server is located at the Client side and i dont have access to it. I feel the issue lies with the registries but I am not sure.

Also I request you to come up with any kind of innovative ideas and solutions. Also it is supposed to be urgent.

Cheers & thanks in Advance.

I can't really understand the problem.
Are you saying that you have six shortcuts in the package and when any of these are launched it connects to the server.
If you have launched any of these are you saying that lauching another shortcut not within your package it also establishes a connection to the server?

Hi,

When i launch one of the six shortcuts from my package it connects to the remote server. But If i try to launch another of the six shortcuts it looks to connect to the server again rather tahn using the already established connection. So the shortcuts that are launched are from my package itself.
Also since the server is at the client side I cant even try testing it. Also the server is a licensed one.

Cheers

How does the executable connects to the server / what kind of network connection does it use?
Are you sure this is due to your package and not native for the application it-self? What happens if you install the original setup, does it use the already established connection?

Hi,

Thats what I am told, that the .exe uses the already established connection. The client is using a licensed server. I think it is called the RPC server and I dont know much about it.

Thanks and Regards.

Does the package shortcut(s) differ from the original setup?

Hi,
The shortcuts are as per the executable itself. Are ther any registries missing? If yes which ones could they be?

And there was no parameters to the exe?
Is the shortcut advertised and if so have you tried with regular shortcut instead?

Check for any current user INI or configuration files also..
And one more question, does this establishing connection happens for every launch or is it only for the first time?

Hi India_Repackaging could you be more specific. Do you get some message screens, error messages. With my script I only used the PowerUserU.exe link, which other ones are you using?

That's probably your issue right there...clients don't always know what they're talking about :P lol.

What happens if you bypass your shorcuts all together and just launch those .exe's seperately? Does it still establish two different connections? Gonna be honest with you...if you can't really test that functionality since you have no access to the client's environment...you're kinda out of luck...

Actually I did this package a couple of years ago. I dont clearly remember the intricacies although I had to resort to registering the several dll files by getting them registered during runtime by vbscripts and ofcourse unregistering them as well - A dangerous thing to do.
I was fortunate then as the client was pretty understanding and did not mind the slight delay. Lucky me [:D]
